Making history: Ivan Domingues Barcelona debrief
It was an unforgettable weekend for Ivan Domingues and Van Amersfoort Racing, with the team taking home many points and Portugal having its first winner in the history of FIA Formula 3.
The Dutch team now sit fourth in the teams’ standings after a successful weekend, while Domingues enjoyed his first F3 victory in front of family and friends and the many Portuguese fans who descended on the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya for round 5.
Here's what the VAR driver made of his weekend in Barcelona.
WEEKEND MOMENT
"We all know that Barcelona is a track where qualifying is always very, very tight. Two tenths can be the difference between P5 and P20. So we all know that there is no room for error, especially on the last lap.
"I had a little bit of an issue when I hit a kerb and the car basically went into safety mode for the first set. But I knew the car was feeling really good and I had another good lap. I was pretty confident going into the second and third laps and I managed to put together a good lap. It wasn't the best lap of my life, it wasn't the perfect lap, but it was good enough to keep me in front.
"We changed our approach and I did a good job to prepare myself mentally for this race. After missing out on pole position in Monaco by a tenth, we didn't want to have that feeling again and we just went for it. We changed our mindset, our approach, and it paid off."
